2 year old B/W for adoption in Chicago!

Hi everyone. "nohotegu" has asked me to post this ad for her, as she is currently without internet. Gigi, our 2 year old Argentine B/W, is being put up for adoption. Sadly, nohotegu just moved into a tiny new apartment, and can no longer provide Gigi with the care she needs. Any and all...

Two Black and White Tegus in Midwest

They are both nearly two years old. It turns out that kaa is unable to take in more animals at this time, and I have had a hard time getting back into contact with either Mr Critter or reptastic. If either of you guys are still interested in Gigi and/or Gozar, please email me at dhc03 at...

Two Black and White Tegus in Midwest

Hi guys, I'm nohotegu's boyfriend and co-owner of these fine animals. Here are some pictures to warm your hearts. Contact us if you are interested and we will try to work something out. It would be nice not to have to split them up, but if you can only handle one that is totally understandable...

    young tegus 1st hibernation

Thanks for the reply, and don't worry, I know it's constructive criticism. I've gotten the impression that a)hibernation is not required to maintain the animal's health, b)it is possible (though not necessarily easy) to prevent your tegu from hibernating, and c)it is not necessary to completely...

    young tegus 1st hibernation

more hibernation questions hey guys, I have a similar situation with my ~3 month old, ~18" long tegu. since she came in the mail about a month ago she has shown signs of going into hibernation, eating very rarely and sleeping a whole lot. she's got plenty of room in her 3.5'x3' cage, and sleeps...

    Sealing plywood cage

ah yes, hehe, the caribeeners... those are part of my old solution to not having a top for the original cage. i got the original 40 gal with the stand for free, but it didnt come with a top, so instead of buying one for $25 I just went to the hardware store and bought 36"x18" of wire mesh for...

    Sealing plywood cage

pictures It's done! It's a 40 gallon glass tank turned on its side, with the open top connected to the tank stand, which I converted into an extension using plywood and plexiglass. Here are the pictures.

    Sealing plywood cage

Thanks for all these tips guys! I just laid down the first coat of flat black, water-based exterior latex. Now to paint the outside. I'll put up a pic when it's finally done.

    Sealing plywood cage

Yeah I cut a little door on the front of the cage, its excellent! you can almost see it in the picture, middle of the left column of rectangles. It swings outward so he can let himself in and out of his warm cage after walking around in my room (although I can also lock it, of course).

    Sealing plywood cage

Interesting update: I just called the lumber store where I got the wood, which is Luan plywood, and asked them if there was any pine or cedar in it, and they said no. Apparently, Luan is made of mahogany-type woods, so I needn't worry so much about toxicity (unless there's something I don't know...

    Sealing plywood cage

Thanks joker! So far I've laid down two coats of Zinsser oil-base int/ext primer and one coat of flat black spray paint. I think I'll go to the hardware store today and get myself some water based latex. Ahhhh, its so close, I have to force myself to take my time! Any other tips are appreciated...
