Tegu fell, now not moving its forelegs.

He's back from his follow up vet visit now (after the emergency visit that night.) He checks out ok, with no apparent lasting injuries. The vet thinks he may have given himself a concussion, but he should be out of the woods. The only long term result is that now he's afraid of his feeding...

Tegu fell, now not moving its forelegs.

I went to get him to take him to the vet and he's moving normally again. Should I still take him tonight?

Tegu fell, now not moving its forelegs.

I was pulling my new B&W (Rufus) to feed him, and while carrying him to the feeding tub, something startled him and he leaped out of my arms and landed on the floor. He has done this many times before, but this time, he must have landed wrong. When I bent down to pick him up he was on his...

    Swollen Vent- photo included

It sounds to me like your vet just bit off more than they could chew. Tegus aren't exactly common herps. I hope you have better luck with the new vet, and I hope Sugar's condition improves. I feel your pain, I've got a milk snake that has been fighting an infection at his vent for going on...

    scared for my tegus

Definitely take them to the vet. I *always* take new herps of unverifiable origin directly to the vet. A lot of people think it's unnecessary, but I'd rather pay a $37 premium on my herps (the standard office call at the vet clinic here), than risk an outbreak of mites, or worse. (I...

i feel like crying right now

You have my condolences. My house burnt this january. I was able to get all of my critters out, at the expense of smoke inhalation and severe frost bite (it was like -2 F at the time). I was very lucky, I am sorry that you were not.

Chicken Gizzards - My new favorite Tegu food

Ground turkey is only about $1/lb here. But there are a ton of turkey farms in my town.

    So...Who's got What comin'???

I've got a black and white male on order, my first tegu. It's also a christmas morning kind of feeling. I've wanted one ever since I learned of their existence. Convinced the wife to let me get one this summer. I can't wait.

    Is that cute or what??

That's so adorable! I can't wait to get mine. I'm compulsively checking my e-mail for the paypal request!

    Tegu hatchling housing

I'm getting my first tegu this summer (a B&W from Bobby), and it's basically my first lizard (I had anoles as a kid, but those hardly count. Can I start my tegu off in his adult enclosure? Or will he need a small enclosure in order to feel safe.

Two Black and White Tegus in Midwest

My wife says she'd kill me if I took them (just took in a green iguana, chinese water dragon, and two adult ball pythons, all rescues), but I'm curious where you are, since your location says Massachusetts, and that's not midwest.

And don't forget to vary the diet!

a discussion on the philosophy of feeding.

I keep snakes and turtles, and I'm getting my first tegu this summer. I also raise my own rats, gerbils, and fish as feeders. When I got my first snake, I fed it a live mouse out of an infantile desire to see it "in action". It was stupid to do, and my snake ended up with a scratch on its...

    Rat pinkies?

Couldn't you just chop the pinkie in half if you're not sure? I don't have a tegu yet, but that seems like the obvious solomon-esqe answer.

Looking into getting a Tegu this summer, have some questions

It's just really hard to filet a fish that's only a few inches long =P
