Tegu Won't poop. Other new cage issues.

Day 12: The poop has landed. I decided since the cause of the issue might be that he was holding it (since he usually goes outside his cage), I would let him free roam the house today (for the first time). Was a little nervous to let him finally run around, but he is having alot of fun exploring...

Tegu Won't poop. Other new cage issues.

Also worth mentioning is that before I moved my tegu to his new cage, I would take him out into a carboard play pen to eat and then poop. but ever since he moved to his full size cage I got rid of the play pen. Maybe he is/was holding his poop in because i wasn't taking him to the play pen, and...

Brand New Baby Is Scared, How Can I Help?

The important thing is to take things slowly with your new animal. It can take months for your tegu to fully adjust. My Tegu was extremely unsocialized when I got him. You could not even get your hand near him without him biting or running away. I'm not an expert but he's definitely not full...

Tegu Won't poop. Other new cage issues.

day 11: didn't leave his hide at all. slept all day. This is the first time this has happened, I'm a bit worried. Perhaps the change in cage/climate has triggered him to start going into brumation? Could this have to do with him not pooping? I don't want him to brumate if he's impacted.

Tegu Won't poop. Other new cage issues.

Hello everyone. Recently I've moved my 1 year old Tegu, Ghost, to his adult cage, as he is starting to get pretty big. His new enclosure is 8 x 4 foot. his old one was only 4 x 2. His new cage also has a hotter basking spot (ranging from 110-130). the regular temp ranges from low 70's-high 80's...

Is my Juvenile/Sub-adult Tegu Obese? Checkup

Hello everyone. I've had my dear tegu Ghost for 5 months now. According to the people I've bought him from, he should be about a year old now. Guides I have read have recommended feeding a tegu around his age three times a week, however I've fed him every day since I've purchased him. He gets...

My Tegu wiggling out of control, trying to pick

Hard to tell. Perhaps he just had an ache or pain, or was in a bad mood. Can you elaborate on what your vitamin soak entails?

    New food ideas

Same problem here. My juvenile will spit out any vegetable i give him, and the only fruit he seems to like is banana. Banana is good, but can't be given in large quantities since it contains such high potassium. I've heard some owners cover their greens in egg yolk to make them taste appealing...

    Tegu Food No-No's

eggs and banana make up half of my tegu's current diet. luckily I've gotten him to accept other fruits like grapes. and eat other protein sources like ground turkey mixed with calcium powder.

Can I feed my tegu this?

I've been thinking of including wild caught fish in my tegu's diet since I like to go fishing with my family and there are a multitude of brackish/saltwater fish in the rivers/mouth of the bay. mullet (mugil spp.) and hard head catfish (Ariopsis felis) are the species i've been thinking about...

Wild caught fish? and other Dietary Discussion

In particular, the wild caught fish we are thinking of feeding him are mullet (mugil spp.) and hard head catfish (Ariopsis felis). They are common fish in the area, and don't contain Thiaminase according to the lists I've found online.

Wild caught fish? and other Dietary Discussion

Hello everyone. I've had my tegu for a little over a month now. he's a sub-adult, about 20 inches long including tail. He's very fun! I'm been primarily feeding him Egg (hardboiled with shell), Bananas, Discoid roaches, nightcrawlers, hornworms, and superworms. I've been looking to expand his...

    Force handling?

Hello, I'd like some advice on force handing my juvenile tegu. He's about 22 inches long including tail. his body is about 7 inches. I have to take him to the vet to get tagged, but we've had him for less than a month, and he still is very bite-y, and doesn't like to be touched at all, let alone...

    Tag Your Reptile Day

Okay so I have to get my Tegu tagged. It's still a Juvenile, and not at all tamed. Just got him a while back. It is going to be extremely difficult getting a leash or collar on him in this state, and I'm worried the whole experience will badly damage his trust. any recommendations of how to go...
