We use a mix of cypress and coconut bark. The coconut seems to come in two grades (really coarse and fine); we use the fine one. It's really soft and fluffy, like a light and spongy version of pete moss, and it holds moisture great(ly). :)
Also LLL Reptiles in Escondido has cypress. If you can't get to Esco they also sell everything online at www.lllreptile.com
What part of Ca are you in? I noticed other people sometime having trouble getting cypress.
We live in San Diego and haven't had any problems getting to it; if you're around these parts, Pet Kingdom in point loma has it in big ol' bags :)
if my math is right, the one in the link Kharnifex gave you should be enough to cover the tank to the right thickness for 4 dollars. That's the best deal I've seen.
Just be sure to freeze the bag for 24 to 48 hours to kill any bugs or parasites, and allow it to get back to room temp before...
My job and my wife take up most of my time these days.
I used to sing/bass in a metal band. I'm kind of learning guitar. Maybe one day I'll go looking for a band to play with again.
I also play a stupid amount of video games. Stupid. (beat expert mode on Guitar Hero 2. What a dweeb!)...
sounds about right. I'm making sure to hang out outside Zevi's enclosure so he gets used to my presence and realizes I'm not a threat. I'll let him hang out or crawl around in my hand too. So long as you're not being too invasive when you pet her, it should be fine. Make sure she's not tensing...

do tegus tend to sleep more if they eat a bunch? Zevi ate a lot yesterday, burrowed earlier than usual, and is staying down a few hours late today. Should I be worried?
edit: nevermind. Nervous first time owner. He's up and happy, trying to bask it off.
so far this week, Zevi has preferred the monitor diet (which is all the right proteins in a pellet the size of a large cricket). I'm not sure if he's eating enough for his size. 4 pellets a day is all he takes.
I'm going to offer just pinks today. If that doesn't do, it will be scrambled eggs...
