    Coloration

It's definitely variable but I'm guessing yours will lighten up based on the brighter white highlights on its back. Who did you purchase your tegu from? Depending on the breeder you can get a good idea of your tegus adult coloration based on their breeding stock. I've raised 15 or so b&w...

Is it possible to breed a B&W tegu with a Blue ?

A chacoan is the the same species as a reg black and white - they are one in the same. Do your research and you'll see like the rest of us have that "chacoan" can't be proven in any way - most breeders just call their b&w's with a high white pattern and/or a slightly larger adult size a...

Is it possible to breed a B&W tegu with a Blue ?

Not an issue at all. Underground reptiles and Hectors Habitat are a couple of breeders crossing the blues and b&w's.

Mike - hey man it's Kris that sold you the tegu. He looks great! He growing well and staying friendly for you??? How big is he now? Still hoping to get another one soon but am still too busy at work. Hoping things change after the holidays so I can have time again. Enclosure is still looking...

    Skinny Tegu

Def try various foods like dude said. I've had the best luck with frozen/thawed mice or dripping some raw egg yolk over ground turkey - they usually can't resist the raw egg! Good luck

    Taming! Yep...again!

Agree as usual with Walt1 - I've had great luck when they're young letting them sleep just under my shirt on my lap.

    Substrate question

I use about 6" deep cypress mulch in my enclosure and spot clean as good as possible - then try to fully replace every couple months unless necessary sooner. I kinda use the smell test as a guide!

    Black and White Coloring

Cool - my male is actually from them as well. Got him back in November also as a supposed Chacoan. He has a good amount of orange underneath but def not that awesome orange striping. It will be interesting to see how the color changes with age. Looks a little bit like this female whose pic...

    Black and White Coloring

Mike - thats an awesome little tegu! Yes - the orange is usually on the belly or underside of legs/throat, etc... You happen to know who the breeder was? Any chance its actually a b&w/red cross?

    Help! Tegu Shedding Problems

Definitely give the ground turkey/cod oil/beef liver combo a try which it looks like you are doing. There have been a couple of people here lately that have had similar shedding issues and this mix helped considerably. From what I've read the preferred mix is approx 1 part beef liver to 3...

    New tegu mommy HELP!

Yes your tegu needs D3, but it should primarily be getting it from proper UVB lighting - not D3 supplementation. Use a good high output UVB fluorescent or high quality UVB spot light (Mega Ray is the best) to allow the tegu to produce its own D3. Calcium with D3 will never substitute for this...

    Tegu meals

Agreed with Mishaaa on a good mix of diet. I use the ground turkey, beef liver, and cod liver oil mix as a once a week staple to aid in shedding - this mix seems to work wonders if you're having shedding issues. Also sneak in some fruits, veggies, egg yolk frequently. Usually feed some...

    New tegu. Couple questions.

It took a couple of months for my tegu to get used to me as well. Letting him sleep on my lap and tucked under my shirt or a blanket seemed to work the best to get him used to me. As long as it doesn't completely frighten him, I agree with Walt1 on getting them out of their hide in order to...
