Got him as a juvenile from LLL Reptile, so unfortunately I don't know his exact age. Going off his size (which I know isn't a reliable way to determine age), gender, and recent increase in jowel size, and listing as a juvenile, I BELIEVE he's about a year old. Give or take a few months.
So, moved from northern NY to NC about a week ago, temps here are about 30-40 degrees higher down here so I know my tegu can feel the pressure difference. Aside from the whole moving process, I'm wondering if it's common for them to get a bit feisty during the spring, as he has just started...
I'm relocating from northern NY to NC, and began my trip yesterday, it's 13 hour drive in perfect conditions (so really about 16 hrs total). Anyways, I stopped halfway at a hotel to catch some z's after about 8 hrs on the road and give my tegu, Hades a break too. I expected him to be stressed...
So I'm getting out of the military here in a few weeks, and moving from NY to NC and my household goods (including my tegu's huge enclosure) will be getting packed up by movers on the 9th of April. Delivery date is projected to be April 21st (12 days without enclosure). I'll be moving everything...
So my gu definitely prefers tilipia (and rats) over everything else I offer him. I've offered turkey, eggs, blueberries, baby carrots, natures variety duck & chicken cat food. Has anyone else found their tegus with a fish preference?
So I've had my boy Hades now for about three weeks. And for the first week-week and a half, he would just run away from my hand when I'd reach into his enclosure. This week, almost every time I've put my hand in there, when I've seen that he's active, he'll actually look up at me and either...
Hey everyone, have a question: if my Tegu has had one of those days where he's stayed burrowed/slept all day, would it be better to leave him alone completely and wait til the next day to feed him, or to wake him up for some chow?
I've tried looking everywhere up here man (upstate NY, near Syracuse) for cypress and could only find a "cypress blend," I didn't want to expose him to any pine or cedar, etc. and compromise his health, so I avoided it. Know of anywhere online that sells it?
I've got him in a 3x6x3 lidless enclosure that I made out of melamine. Got two infrared heat lamps on either side: warm side stay about 90ish with a basking spot of about 115-120F, cool side between 80-85. I don't currently have a temp laser gun, but rather use thermometers with a probe attached...
I got my buddy here Hades, about 3 weeks ago from lllreptile.com and he's doing great. Didn't eat the first couple of days from what I thought was stress resultant of his new environment, turned out he was going through a shed and didn't want to eat...After he got done though, wow, can he eat...
