we had to remove some of the bone, she just wouldnt let it heal. so we removed about a half inch of jaw line and stitched it and she is doing great now. eating fine and everything.
theres also the simple fact that not all tegus like to be held. they are still creatures of instinct, they all have their own outlook on things their own likes and dislikes. some of mine will tolerate handling, some of mine will scratch you to death, and one of mine will hang out with you all...
PVC is an expensive material to work with. it has its advantages and its downfalls. its very sturdy in thick sheets and pretty easy to clean. I think they are good for snakes and low heat lizards. i would never use them for tegus or monitors. PVC outgasses a toxic fume at much lower temperatures...
go to an asian market, you can buy frozen mullet of various sizes, also frozen crabs. they both average out to 25 cents a piece. thats cheaper than rats or mice and some tegus like the crab crunch. but the mullet were a big hit. the market i went to had about 50 species of whole frozen fish...
she made it through. her jaw looks much better already, hopefully i can get a pic of it soon. its still a long road of healing and trying to get her to feed on her own. but its a step in the right direction. i cant thank my vet enough. he did a great job
i think he tried to breed her again, and she attacked him. she has shown no tendency to guard the nest. she didnt even fight me when i retrieved the eggs. but it seems like she went to bite and he caught her bottom jaw.

this definately caught me off guard though. i believe they were breeding while burrowed. i never once saw anything happen.
im not making any plans for them yet. this is my first cllutch so im not too confident in my ability to hatch them.
but if it goes well i will be selling them
