She is a gorgeous girl indeed. I love how instead of being the typical black and white, she's always had an olive color to her (and the orange belly). With the last shed, she actually lost a few patches of black on her nose! So now she's got these little white spots going on on her face...
Didn't want to do this, not at all, but circumstances changed on me again, and she's in need of a good home. Issues with my own personal health have made it so that I have to rehome my beloved lizard.
She's one of the last to come out of Varnyard in 2011, a black and white with the black...
And I see threads on here about tegus hurting themselves in enclosures as well. Or eating mulch and getting impacted. Everytime a problem arises with mine, I take care of it. I make sure I take care of problems. I post here for advice and to share tegu stories, not to get told I'm a bad pet...
So I've caught a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of crap from people for how I keep my tegus. I've got two of them, big happy healthy adults, and they're both free-range in my apartment.
Other than cleaning up tegu crap every day, the arrangement works for all of us. Both of my tegus get regular...
She went to her new home yesturday. Apparently she's got a pond and a big outdoor area that is just for her. The fellow who took her, he told me that she's definitely not a full red. She's a hybrid. She's destined to become a display-lizard, going with him to reptile expos and getting her own...
It is with great sorrow that I'm having to say this. I'm giving her up. She's been getting progressively more skittish, more scared. She barely tolerates handling. Today, one of my other tegus tried to eat her. Up until now, they've slept together, basked together, eaten together. That other...
Awesome. Thank you folks! I think most of the folks who see me post on here know by now about my problem-child Derp, so I'm sure this won't be the last time I'll have to treat a wound. For a lizard that is so smart, he's pretty dumb. >.<
Now if I can just get him to eat again (he's...
What's the best treatment for a small wound on a tegu?
My beloved Derp has somehow managed to injure himself. Again. I swear, half the time he's a lazy lizard sunning himself somewhere, the other half, he's bound and determined to find the most trouble he can get into.
Not sure how he...
I swear, sometimes tegus are too smart for their own good.
This morning, my big guy affectionately called 'Derp' decided to claim something that belongs to the cat. Now, him and the cat have a love hate relationship. She loves his heating pad. He tries to eat her tail. She drinks out of...
Yep, they're planning another one. I went to the last one (it's how I ended up with my big guy, Derp), and it's a small show, but a good one.
They're on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hrrexpo?ref=ts&fref=ts
dear lord...the idea of some of the folks from this forum meeting up is a scary one. So many big personalities! :P
That being said, keep safe in that snow. And when all else fails, wrap the lizards in a blanket and cuddle with them.
Seeing the size of my big guy's yawns...I'm wondering if he could eat a rabbit at this point. I'm not sure if I'm ready for that though.
Considering he keeps trying to eat the cat's tail lately, it might be time to move up to bigger prey for the brat.
