i could be wrong, but I thought that the back arching showed that they were not comfortable with being pet....
either way though, congrats on your new gu! pics please!
woo pretty pretty. i love how the tongue contrasts with the rest of the pic.
As for the claws, i guess a lot of people have rocks in their enclosures. As for me, my tegu's outside playpen lies partially on a brick/cement surface, which she like to dig at.
wowow. the other pictures of the all americans i have seen made them seem like a brownish color. This is the first time I have seen the purple in them, it's absolutely gorgeous! To be fair, this is the first time I've viewed all american pics on a desktop instead of a laptop, so it might just be...
The snakes in the first few pics are gopher snakes, right?
Must be nice, to have that kind of area right outside your door.
What is the lizard in the second to last pic? I absolutely love its color!
Those are some cute kids you have there, txrepgirl. Is Shakespeare still boycotting the ground turkey?
@moop: Feeding tegus in a separate tub has two purposes:
1. To prevent impaction (since there is no substrate to ingest in the feeding bins)
2. To prevent cage aggression (They don't see...
I've never really noticed a strong, overpowering smell coming from my tegu. Their excrement smells pretty terrible though, so you should probably take care of that as soon as it appears if you want to avoid trouble with your parents.
As for the animal itself, my tegu doesn't smell that...
i'll support your claims, buddy. I just caught my little girl eating some shed as well. It's not like she was going hungry either since she put down two mice and some ground turkey prior to that.
that was a very interesting link, Marlene. I wonder if those numbers for the Humane society's gross income and spending on local shelters are accurate. What a shame that our local shelters can't even get good money from their supposed parent organization.
That quote from the Humane society's...
oh man i can't believe how terrible the employee's answers were! Just feed them crickets and lettuce? Ten gallon aquarium? Hopefully someone heard you while you were telling the guy off and paid attention to what correct monitor husbandry should be like!
Thanks for the replies!
I think I'll try putting him outside for a night or two to see if it has any effect on his activity level. I'll be sure to give him plenty of burrowing room and at least a low wattage infrared bulb.
Thanks again.
Hi guys/gals!
So spring is in the air and I'm thinking of getting my Tegu an outside enclosure. If he spends the night outside (nighttime temps around 50 F), what kind of nighttime heating source should I use?
I've heard not to use heat pads inside their enclosures since the tegus can burrow...
Hi guys!
So my B/W is about 20 inches long right now and absolutely loves crickets. When I first tried the crickets I was concerned that they wouldn't be taken because of their small size, but he/she gobbles them down without a problem.
If you guys kept your gus eating crickets alongside their...
