i bought 2 baby savannah monitors.. 1 a week ago and the other 2 weeks ago. i house them separately.. both have basically the same set up.. a basking spot of 120-130, they both have uvb.

1st baby sav I got - very fiesty personality, I cant go near him/her and s/hes hissing and trying to bite. He(she) is always running around the tank, exploring and loves to chase crickets and eats lots of them and is growing quickly. He/she wont even look at the mealworms because their too slow moving.

2nd baby sav - i can pick him(her) up, no problem, very laid back and slow moving. spends all day hiding/sleeping usually in the cave. will chase the crickets, but gives up after about 10 seconds of trying to catch one. he/she will eat mealworms, but only 1 a day. not a big appetite.

so im a little worried about the second baby i have.
anyone have baby sav's and experience this different behavior?

Thanks,
Leanne

well, not necessarily.. its just that mine sleeps alllllll day long and hardly eats. give yours some time to settle in.. once he/she settles, let me know what its eating/sleeping habits are like!!

I must of not pressed post
Most monitors will eat right away but some need time to adjust to their new surroundings. Post some pics of your cage and due you have good dirt depth along with some hiding spots on both ends. You can also tong feed if your worried about them not getting enough food

Thanks for the reply.
I will try and post pics soon, i dont have any yet.
I hope that its just taking him a little longer to settle and theres nothing going on. My first one is doing great and growing quickly.
I do have lots of hiding places, maybe i'll add another small cave just in case. I dont have good soil depth though. I will get on top of that tmw. Im thinking he doesnt stay out long to catch food because hes nervous. I tried putting both of them together first and he was soooo timid and scared of my other one.

Hey I have a year old savannah monitor and he was just like yours as a baby. He barely liked mealworms and doesn't care for chasing crickets... But ever since I gave him live pinkies and scrambled egg. He has been a great eater ever since. Now he'll eat superworms by the load and if he's hungry enough he'll eat a cup full of mealworms too!
