A few questions.

My tegu has been sleeping ALOT, but she will wake up and roam around for a few hours. She hasnt eaten in about 3-4 weeks, even when i offer her food she doesnt eat. I guess im just not used to a pet not eating for this long, but just making sure that this is normal.

Also, i got this Tegu on AugustÃ?â??Ã? 20th. She still "hisses" at me sometimes when i pet her. She has only bitten me once, and that was the day i got her. I can pick her up with no problems and sit her in my lap and she is calm. What can i do to get her to stop hissing at me? I mess with her everyday. Is it just to early for her to be "familiar" to me? Or am i doing something wrong?

He/she might be slowing down to hibernate or brumate. Did you read the section here on tegutalk on "taming the beast"? It's on the home page. There is awesome info there that will really help.

Common practice is putting a T shirt that you have worn all day in it's enclosure so he gets familiar with your scent and rotate daily. The main thing I did and still do is move extremely slow and talk softly around him. And lots of bathtub or shower time to allow him to roam and also have to climb on me to get around.

sounds normal since you just got her in late august. you may want to hold off on the taming process until next spring. dont wake her up or dig her up to handle her. you can still handle her and interact but be carefull. dont get anxious and try to force the taming process. it takes time ,and all tegus are a little different. ive had mine for over a year and she still puffs up once and a while.
