Since we have 3 dogs, 6 Tegus and 3 other lizards it's very hard for us to be gone longer then a day. But please make sure that your pet sitter doesn't feed your Tegu in the enclosure and to make sure that he/she will wash the hands after touching any food. So he/she will not get bit. I would have your sitter come over and watch you how you do things. The next day have him/her do it while you watch. Good luck and have fun on your vacation

If you know the sitter well and know that he/she has experience, otherwise I would not leave mine with anyone else.
Good luck,

There is a local kid(14) in my area that is always posting his reptile sitter ad. He is very professional and you would never guess his age if he didn't tell you. He offers his service for free and even offers the temperary enclosures if need be. He has been doing this for two years and I must say he has gotten experience and a ton of people take him up on his offer. I doubt he would be able to house a Tegu but I quized just out of curiousity and he nailed every question with exceptional answers. Gotta give the kid credit and what a great way to get experience and to feel out different reptiles to see what you would like to own one day. He was an awesome kid.
Anyhoo, back on topic.....I would feel nervous like you if I were going away. I have always had some kind of reptile in the house requiring heat lights but since the Tegus I am worried everyday we leave the house. I guess its the new mommy fear. As for feeding in the enclosure, unless they were used to handling my large lizzies I think I would just rather them feed in the enlclosure but use a large but shallow pan as to ensure the Tegus don't eat mulch. I would be too scared that the Tegu would sense that they are hessitant or just don't know the right ways to handle the tegu. I would hate to come home and find out they got a bite from my baby. That being said if you are gone for upwards of a week or two then maybe I would not want him fed in the enclosure as they get so used to things so fast.
Either way you will still feel a little uneasy leaving the Gu's no matter who you have watching them. Same with kids, no one can watch them like their mommy!

Well thank you for the kind words nessie... well as far as feeding in the enclosure goes. I do feed them in there enclosures and i havent had any problems with them so far. i dont leave the food in with htem i hold there bowls while they eat. I will be taking the gu to the sitters he is a reptiles owner or many snamkes and lizards. he has a local shop next to us. he is where i got my frist gu from. I have no worries about him taking care of them we will only be gone for a couple days. but you nailed it right on the head "noone can take better care then mommy" :jes

I should have looked closer and realized that you do know your sitter, I thought that you may be leaving with someone that you did not know or at least know very well.
Sorry for the confusion.
