A question of regularity

Sooooo...I may or may not be tired of getting pooped on.

So...in comparison to when you feed your tegus...when do they tend to "release" their "presents". It seems like every time Boosh and I are hanging out, he has something to give me. Regardless of time. He's not aggressive or trying to get away...he just feels really "generous" quite often. I'm trying to figure out some sort of schedule so as to keep my laundry bill at a minimum.

Thanks.

You might wanna try soaking him in a nice warm bath after the feeding, Mine usually does his thing in the water. Plus it keeps the enclosure pretty clean.
Or in your case, maybe your clothes cleaner..lol
Give it a shot

ok, same happens to me, he just pooped me once , but he looks as trained not to poop in hes enclosure... everytime i take him out he poops... if i dont take him out he does not poop

it was not easy for me to get used to this, i let him free roam in my bed every day and every day he pooped my bed.
but now , as soon as i take him , i let him free roam in the floor so he poops in the floor(easier to clean) or i just give him a warm bath and he poops in his tub.

My tegu typically takes a poop right next to his basking rock. It sucks because if I dont see it right away, or he does it while im at work, it's like baked into the mulch by the time I get home haha. I guess it's easier to clean up that way. It just makes it hard to tell if they are "proper" stools.

I actually thought he may be a little impacted. He tried to poo yesterday and just a little tiny yellow/white squirt came out. I was kinda worried as I have seen him move pieces of mulch around with his mouth. I cant decide if he's eating it, or if he's just moving it while he's pushing around mulch in his tank. Anyways, I woke up today and he had an ENORMOUS stool waiting for me next to the basking rock. I think he's good to go now if he wasnt before. I didnt find any mulch in the stool, so maybe he's just moving it around while digging and not actually swallowing it.

Thanks guys. I'll try giving him a soak. But, my god, it's like clockwork. Hold Boosh for ten minutes, clean my pants. Rinse, repeat.

OK...I think Boosh has it in for me. He won't bite or whip me, just dump all over me. Even when I soak him (for up to twenty minutes!) he waits until he's on my lap to "go". I'm wondering if maybe he's realized that's how he'll get me to leave him alone since I put him back in his cage immediately after so I can do the necessary cleaning up.

So...whadya think? Am I reinforcing this "crappy" (pardon the pun) behavior by putting him back in his cage directly after he goes? He's not aggressive at all and really seems to enjoy being out of his cage...exploring and whatnot. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks guys.

I guess I have been pretty lucky over the years. I have never been crapped on by any of my monitors, or Tegus....

Althou.... I have been crapped on by everything else I own. :doh

My Savvys that I had some years ago and Waters always crapped in their water dish. It was nice because water is cheaper then substrate. :p

Made clean up easy and fast too.

On the downside I ended up having to put another water bowl in their cages so they has fresh drinking water, because they crapped in the water dish daily. Also in the downside, if I was at work when it happened, by the time I got home that crap in the water dish stank to high hell. :jes

The Tegu craps in the same corner of his cage every time, also makes clean up easy.

Good lord! It happened AGAIN last night. I asked this the other day and I'm going to ask it again:

Am I reinforcing this "crappy" behavior by putting him away after he defecates on me (well, not me so much as the towel I've been putting over my legs to avoid getting my clothes soiled)?

Would it be a good idea to keep him out AFTER he craps on me (ya know, put the towel outside and continue to handle him)?

It's kind of a bummer because we do really well together. He never shows ANY aggression and seems to love to explore (and crap on me).

At least he's "regular" though...I guess. It could be worse. FWIW, he's growing like a freakin' weed.

I realize that it's not so funny for you, but i cant help but laugh every time i read a new one of your posts. I would say to keep him out afterwords and continue to handle him like nothing happened. I'm not really sure how to change that behavior, but I would say that putting him back could possibly be reinforcing it.

Oh, it's cool. It is hilarious. My roommate ESPECIALLY thinks so. I went from doing laundry once every month (bit of an overstatement, but not too much of one, hah) to doing it just about every day.

Thanks for the advice. I'll let him crap on me again today, keep him out, and see what happens. Hell, maybe he'll crap on me again? But at least we'll have bonded, right?

Letcha know how it goes....

I can only imagine. I'm sure your roommate does think it's hilarious. I about blew milk out my nose reading your last post. I know sometimes it's hard to show emotions online, but I can just picture the whole scenario in my head. Good idea on the towel though.

My tegu likes to hang out on my shoulders and climb up on my head. Look on the bright side! At least he's not taking a crap in your hair! lol

EDIT: Actually I just had a thought. What if you try using a paper towel on your lap for a while, that way he starts to associate it that way. Then after a week or so of him crapping on your lap on the paper towel, try putting a paper towel in one corner of his enclosure. Who knows? Maybe it's actually going to turn out with you having a potty trained tegu? It could end up being for the best!

Keep your head up man! It's possible you can turn this into a training exercise! haha :cheers

I can just see the youtube video now: "BEING the litterbox--Potty training tegus"

Maybe Boosh is just ahead of his time...pretty soon ALL tegus will be potty trained this way. It's the wave of the future.

It seems to me like he's got your number for sure! I'd definitely try the paper towel suggestion. Good Luck! Keep us posted

make a poo box. when he poos put it in his poo box. wait until he poops again and put that one in then take the first one out. then repeat that. he should learn soon enough. if that doesnt work then give him a short bath befor you take him out.

I like that idea...a helluva lot more than I like BEING the poo box. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Score one for the home team!!! Boosh actually decided that indoor plumbing was the way to go. Tonight, that is. We actually got to hang out for more than ten minutes. Good night.
