I know i've read it on here before but i'm not sure how to do a search but how old is it before these fellas usually reach their adult temperment.

I ask because i have a huge baby, born on june 29 and over 2 feet long, but he still doesn't like being held. Not that he bites but can get squirrely. He often hangs out on the couch with my wife and i. Maybe i am simply impatient or doing something wrong. I have noticed that he has become better since i built him his new cage. Not bad just not dog tame....yet.

Maybe your doing everything right but not enough of it, ( time wise )
I take alot of time with mine, probably 1-2 hours a day, sitting in the tub, sitting watching tv etc. Sometimes hes extra squirmy and wants to explore and letting him usually tires him out to the point where he just wants to chill and relax when hes done.

yeah i spend time with mine every day..at least two hours. I sit in the tub with him after he eats. Ill sit next to his cage to read a book. He does let me pick him up. But hold onto him enough to pet him for longer then a minute? That has happened about 5 times since i got him on july13th. Before he used to go crazy if i tried to pick him up. not anymore.

If i let him run around in the room with me it doesnt go well. Then it get to the point where i cant pick him up at all.. he takes off from me each time. he will stay on my shoulder with no issue. But if i bring him in the room with his cage.. his attention is on his cage and wants in it.

Its just taking longer then some people.

i love the vid awd, i hope to get to that point soon. I work long hours but get him out no less than 1hr a day and usually 2-4hrs a day on the weekend. The more i consider it the more i feel as though i'm just acting like a child being impatient but there is nothing to complain about he is getting there i've only had him for a few weeks and he seems to be gradually become more calm.

I have the brother to yours. I got him last Tuesday. I have been feeding him firs thing when I take him out which makes him a bit lazier. I have spent lots of time in the shower or bathroom where he can't get away and I am more relaxed. I believe that the energy we put out will dictate how animals respond. They have a very strong fight or flight response. Right now I am calmer in a tegu safe zone than out in the open of the house, unless he has his leash on, therefore he calms down even more. I had him out for four hours yesterday and about four hours today. The more time spent the better. However everyday's a new day. And we'll see what tomorrow brings. Lol! Hope this helps

Mike.. it might just take a lil more time, a good sign is your not getting bit or having agression towards you, so keep doing what your doing., it'll come along.

Mine was a real pain in the a** for about 2 weeks, first he wouldn't come close to me, then the biting started (turned out the biting was the fruit scented soap I was washing my hands with, my wife is still laughing over that one) I did the t-shirt and he calmed down some after a few days. what worked for me was I took one of those big rubbermaid storage containers and put a hiding spot in it, then took off my shoes and splapped my feet in the middle of it and watched TV. For the first day he circled my feet, the second day he crawled over them back and forth, the whole time I just let him do his thing, the 3rd day he was laying on my feet for extended periods by the 4th day i was able to pick him up no problem, and ever since then we have been good buds, he now sits on my shoulder and gives my wife the evil eye. I think he heard her handbag joke and is planning his revenge!
