Age and secondary sexual characteristics.

I am curious. At what age do males begin developing secondary sexual identification characteristics? For instance, what is the usual age they begin to develope their jowls, if there is a "usual" age and is there a difference between B&W's and Red's sexual maturation?

Buttons you can usually start feeling when they're 2 feet or so. Jowls will begin to develop at around the same time but slowly. They won't be that impressive until your GU is basically full grown and filled out in his adult body.

No specific age or size it's random like most things,.. some mature earlier and later than others, black, blue, or red,.. doesn't matter. Both of my males showed buttons way before any jowls.

So far, what I think is my girl, Evita, (Don't cry for me Argentina....), does not have any buttons that I can feel. She is right at 27" and a captive bred but imported Red so I assume she was hatched late last spring which would put her around 7 months old or so. I will post a couple newer pictures in a couple of days of her head so you can give me your opinion.

Rango Gary and guru showed spurs around 2 feet. Rango had one spur that seemed to develop later. Gurus jowls started to show around a year, he's now a year and a half-ish. Rango didn't start to show his jowls until this last summer, he's 2 1/2ish. Rango and Gary were under fed and small when I got them, so I think their physical development was delayed. I can't say anything for the hybrid, he seems to be almost fully mature

Another sign of maturity, at least in males, are the leaving of sperm plugs. Kodo was over a year old when I got him so I don't know the exact age they start dropping them, but he didn't drop any until I'd had him around two months or so.
