has anyone ever used coconut husk for a substrate for there tegus or any large lizard??? reason i ask is because my tegu is still eating her substrate and even bobby is baffled why he said none of his babies ever do that.... ive done everything in my power to avoid this and bobbys advice was to try eurphorlus mulch or something lol i cant spell it ... and if she still eats that it would be ok to use the cocunut husk.... the cocunut husk is small and thin and frail and even if she ingested a lot of it i dont think it would impact her like a giant peice of cypress mulch could.... he also advised not to use any sands or desert snow or anything like that... i realize the cocunut husk may not be ideal and may not hold humidity as well as my cypress mulch but i dont want a impacted tegu plus i can always bathe her more often to help with sheds.... what do u guys think?

I've never used it in my enclosures but I imagine that it wouldn't hold much humidity. If that's what bobby recommends, then go with it. You might wind up misting it often, but bobby knows best.

hey bro how it sounds . my suggestion would be use outdoor carpet comes in green or brown or newspaper. and have a hide with some mulch for a humid hide.

I was also going to suggest a single piece substrate, but then again there's always the issue of humidity... If you put any kind of moss in his hide to hold humidity he'll probably wind up eating it also... This is a tough one. Like I said earlier, follow bobby's suggestions. He knows what to do. So does JD by the way (most of the time) haha jk.

lol well yeah sometimes. I have never had a GU eat substrate. lucky i guess. I make my own substrate dried pampas grass and hay and dirt in my outside cages. never no problems.

I uses coconut husk(bed a beast, cypress bricks, etc) for alot of my burrowing animals and it is currently in my tregu cage. Ist just what is says coconut husk and is okay to digest for the animal. Its like loose dirt.

I would suggest coc fiber, as it is much smaller than husk, which may cause impaction if ingested, not that you are 100% out of the woods with coco fiber, but much better off if ingested.
