Beardie had pinworms - could tegu now have them too?

Okay, I did something somewhat silly two weeks ago. Kwayze (my beardie) was taking a bath and I wanted to see if they would get along when they swam together (I got this idea from Youtube). I was thinking that maybe I could get them to know each other well in advance in case I want to take them both out at the same time in the future. Anyway, Lucky seemed to love swimming with his big sister and kept trying to sit on her like she was a floating device!

The bad part - I didn't know Kwayze had pinworms then! Can pinworms be transferred through the water? I've also had them both out at once before and Lucky cuddled up to Kwayze...

I don't know if I'm paranoid or not, but I just feel that Lucky has been trying to sleep a lot lately (similar to how Kwayze was before) and he's turning his nose up to both crickets and turkey now. His new thing is only eating scrambled eggs. Also, like I said in another post he was pooping water and urates, although I think that was just from having a mild cedar impaction.

Maybe I'm just worrying too much?

My vet forces you to bring them in for a checkup before they'll do a fecal. My bf has next week off so I might try to make an appointment for that. The problem is the only vet that I think really knows anything might not be on (and the other ones are useless when it comes to reptiles - I know more than them lol).

I'm guessing any vet tech. can do a fecal float to look for pinworms, etc. The test or medication doesn't cost too much. Better safe than sorry. One of our Beardies had pinworms for 2 months before we brought a sample in. She lost alot of weight and may have stunted her growth (she's only 16" long).

It is possible but somewhat unlikely. DaveDragon is correct about any Vet Tech being able to run a fecal float though some vets won't do it without a checkup (which is just a way to scam more $). Any vet even a cat and dog vet can run a fecal float and give you the results, so long as you know what levels of what organisms are normal (or abnormal) you can then treat them on your own.

Hmm that is interesting. I'll check to see what I can do. I think it is necessary and of course, I don't want to stunt his growth! He's already lagging behind his brothers that are 20" lol. (He's about 17.5" right now)

I'm guessing they're 18" to 20". Some of them eat like pigs!!

COOL! I wonder why mine is lagging behind yours? He has a Mercury Vapor Bulb now.

They all grow at their own pace. Since they seem to grow an inch a week, if he doesn't eat for a week he's fallen that much behind. But it's not a race. The idea of a Blue Tegu is a smaller Tegu. Our adults are a nice size, not too big, not too small.

I got lucky with Xander. He escaped one day, and ended up in my old bearded dragon, Miss Priss's, tank. I found them sleeping next to each other. I don't know what I would have done if he had hurt or killed her.
