Is it normal and safe for Tegus to burrow on the hot side? Both of mine burrow under a piece of ceramic tile that is their basking spot. I haven't checked the temps under the tile, but the top is between 112-118, so it is probably pretty hot underneath. Just wondering if this is normal, I thought they burrowed to cool off.

I wouldn't have the baking temp above 110 or 115. Do you have by any chance a temp gun ? This would help alot to measure the temps.

In the wild, when the daytime temps get to hot, then yes they burrow to cool off...

But they will also burrow down simply to put themselves in a comfortable safe place to rest. Beneath the basking tile sounds like such a spot...

As long as he has the option of burrowing on the cool side as well, I wouldn't worry abotu it at all.
