ok so i put a good amount of cypress mulch in the bottom of the aquarium my little guy is in and what does he do but immediately bury himself. now this morning i unburied him and had him out for awhile but he did not eat anything and when i put him back in his cage to eat he buried himself again. should i trust that he will come out when hes hungry, or should i continue to unbury him and offer him food? its not like hes starving by any means but ya i worry bout the little guy

I wouldnt worry to much. You may have stressed him out a little bit by digging him up. When they are small i try and avoid taking them out of their hides as it can cause problems gaining their trust and taming. With my gu's i feel like it helps to have a feeding schedule. They know they are gonna get food at a certain time and are scratching at the doors to get out.

Not to say anything to the contrarey.... I've only had my baby Gu 6 days.... but I unburry him every morning to eat breakfast in another container while I eat breakfast. He does well and eats every time. I also un dig him in the afternoon after work and we hand walk, and sometimes he cuddles, and right now he is chilling under my key board. Am I doing wrong by digging him up? Or is it ok since he seems to be doing well? If he is under the log though I leave him be... I dig him up from around the rock by his basking light. Also... is fine cocoa mulch/husk ok bedding for a baby? He seems to like it, and since he eats in another container I thought it was ok......feed back? I want my baby happy and healthy.

I would avoid disturbing him while he's buried when I first got my gu she stayed in her hide for days at a time and when she wanted to eat she would come out even now I won't take her from her hide and I've had her for almost a year and a half

It's better to be safe then sorry I guess. I've heard every tegu is different and an individual so maybe yours is just an all around trusting tegu. However, you may be slowing losing his trust by unburying him. A more experienced tegu owner will probably be able to answer this better, but when I get my little baby I think I'm going to leave it alone and always let it come to me just in case. It might take only one time where you could unbury him the wrong way and really scare him I would think.
