Hi all I got my b&w tegu last may CB.
He didn't really eat much at first then he started burrowing about 2 months later. I reckon he must of only eaten a small amount about 6 times in the 2 months. Ever since then I presumed he was going into hibernation so I let him do whatever he wanted. I was obviously worried he wouldn't survive it but didn't want to wake him up. Yesterday he came out and sat on his basking spot for a while so I was wondering if he'd be coming out of hibernation already so I should start putting the lights on for longer and the temps back up again?
Thanks for your help

I've also noticed he's just come back our today so I took a picture.

He's still not tame so I'm not going to try and pick him up at the minute don't want to add any stress.

Also here's a photo from the day I got him just so you can compare. Don't know what in doing wrong?

Ok thanks I have been doing that :) while he was out this morning I thought I'd put some food in there so I cracked up an egg into his bowl and put it in the tank with him. At first he closed his eyes and didn't move for about half an hour, presume he was scared a little. Anyway eventually he had a few mouth fulls/sips from it then went back for a few more :)

Sounds like you are doing everything correct. If he is coming out regularly, put your lights back on as you would during the summer. Raw egg is safe for him. What else do you plan on feeding?

Hi Bmx3000 I had a look into that before I gave it to him and there is a thread discussing the feeding of eggs raw and apparently it's ok in moderation not all the time. Thanks for your suggestions though

Hi James, I was originally offering him a beef liver mix I found on a care sheet il see of I can find in a minute, but he never really ate that not sure if that's because he was getting ready to go into hibernation or not. I've been out to the pet store today got some crickets locusts and mealworms(going to cut the heads off) and I got some turkey and blended it with zoomed multi vitamins without d3 and 2teaspoons of cod liver oil.

Thanks for everyone's help

I could try and look around for them. I did manage to get some roaches off the Internet but they were tiny and he wasn't interested at all but I suppose I should definitely try again cause I don't know if that was just because of the hibernation. I can get rat fuzzies but I thought they would be to big for him at that size?

Are these the same as the Dubai roaches ?

if the egg isint cooked i wouldnt recomend giving it to your tegu hardboild best way to go and safe

Iwas researching the avidin in egg thing. It seems the avidin is in the white of the egg, not the yolk. You can either boil the whole thing or just give the yolk raw. I am just using the raw yolk. I don't thing a a little white would be that bad.
