Hi I have a male Tegu named Lucas, he is 7 years old. I have had him since he was 2 months old. The husbandry is all what it's supposed to be, with tempetatures/humidity/lighting, went thru all that with the Dr. He has a good UV fixture, and the bulb is changed every 6 months. Daily baths and out walking around the house supervised. He has done well up until 5 months ago, he has been under a Dr's care for the past 5 months for constipation. He had lab work done, all normal. He had several x-rays done of his abdomen that shows poop with improvement of each x-ray. I have been doing several enemas a week along with lactulose in the enemas and oral lactulose. He gets daily baths, stomach massages out walking each day. Only Giving mostly fruit/veggies lately with occasional 1/3 reptilinks which we started since the constipation. His diet used to be frozen rats thawed out and fruit/veggies.
Then we had a new issue, his tail hit the side of his water bowl 2 months ago and broke his tail. So then he had surgery to remove 8 inches of his tail. That went well but did not help his constipation issues. His tail is healed. The constipation is still a problem. I have spent over 7,000.00 on him and can no longer afford to keep going to the vet. There are no answers to why he is still having constipation issues.
Lucas is on 3 medication regularly at this time: 1) Enrofloxacin 68mg tab every day for the tail infection he has 3 more weeks then finished with it. 2) Cisapride 5mg tab every day to help wake his bowels up. 3) Carprofen 25mg- half tab every day for arthritis, in case he is in pain trying to push to deficate.
Recently this week I have started letting him out in our yard in the sun supervised 3 hours a day, he has been getting stronger walking up and down a few steps on our porch.
Any advise that can help him, any experience with this, I would really appreciate it. Sorry for the long story. Thank you.
