I just pre ordered my tegu from underground reptiles and it's due to hatch mid June. Iv done TONS of research and I know how to care for one but I just wanted to share what I would feed it in week to see if it's fine. It will be around a week old when I get it so I will start out feeding him maybe dubia roaches one day, superworms one day, crickets one day, ground turkey with roaches one day, maybe some scrambled eggs and supers one day and so on. I'll introduce various fruits as he gets older. I'll also give him some cow liver, chicken livers, gizzards, some chicken hearts if I find any, tilapia, salmon, catfish, pinkies, and I found some wild caught whole shrimps with the heads on them but it's made for fishing bait, it says it's great cooking so people can eat it too so I'm assuming he could eat it raw.
If someone could say this is all alright that'd be great.
Thanks.

Pretty much sounds good but id stay away from the livers and such. Whole prey diet, that's what they need

N8bub- why avoid organ meat? I include chicken gizzards and hearts. And beef liver. If not good, I want to know.

Hey walt I should clarify, I don't think there's anything wrong with organ meat. Whole prey certainly comes with organs in it. But used more as a staple it will be a diet lacking in calcium, roughage, and lead towards obesity.

Thanks. Along the lines of what I was thinking. Easy to get but in moderation or a little less.

hey there. its ok to feed livers, but it should be more of a treat, like cake. hearts and gizzards are the way to go if youre going to feed organ meats. especially try to stay away from beef as much as possible. it has a different chemical make up than chicken and can lead to a higher chance of obesity and heart/liver problems. to find chicken hearts and well priced other stuff, try going to an asian food market. they have a lot of the good stuff you're looking for at decent prices.

I was lucky enough a month ago to go to Walmart and find they actually had some chicken livers, gizzards and hearts in stock (which my local one never does) and on sale. We bought pretty much all their units, and now have a nicely stocked freezer of whole prey and organs. When feeding organs I always dust with calcium.
