As the title says,

Do adult Gu's grow out/lose interest of eating locusts, morios, roaches etc?

And favour rodents/chicks/meat?

thanks

Yes they do grow out of them, adults will not spend time chasing bugs most of the time. Mine grow out of roaches and crickets when they get about 12-15 inches.

A reply from the master, thank you bobby.

My concern was that my boy of 2.5 year was not getting enough insects due to his un-interest.
I've read the care sheet time and time again. And with the ever growing concerns of monitors, especially exanthamitcus, dying a young age due to fatty liver disease i didnt want this happening to him due to a high meat diet.

As he has never truely hibernated, only slowed a little, he is fed every other day. Other than fresh fish, turkey/liver mix and rodents/chicks is there something else i can try him on?
he eats well on most fruits and some veg, lately eating mushroom and some kale too.

Whats a general feeding rota for a typical adult?

My blue still shows good interest in Dubias and Hissers. Is it a general loss of interest, or are they not necessarily good for them at an adult age?

nero never really liked bugs, she went completly off of them and ignored them when she was about 8 wks old and only ate super worms once since, before passing achilles still would eat earth worms and superworms and he was 3' and pyro still relishes his bugs from time to time and he is a bit over 2'! so i guess it depends more on the individual tegu, how ever i do believe a 4'+ tegu is going t go hunting a cricket, no way could a tegu fill up on bugs lol especially the mines eat, they re usually a treat with their food!

You can always mash up some bugs and mix them with whatever else you're feeding your tegu if you want a higher bug intake.

Fair do's, seems its down to the individual.

As i said, just dont want my guy not getting something that he should due to him being un-interested in chasing down things.
