Just wondering if sav monitors hibernate in winter like tegus do?
My sav is only about 8 or 9 months old (just a guess) and almost 2 feet long. He was kept in a 40 gallon tank and always had a HUGE appetite, eating whenever I offered food and growing at a reallllly fast rate.
I moved him into a 75 gallon tank about 2 weeks ago, and had to take away his cave which he out grew.. I did however make him a bigger cave out of fake reptile rocks...
He was doing fine in there at first, but since last week when he ate a fuzzy he has been hiding and sleeping all day, no interest in food and my biggest concern.. he hasnt pooped yet...
Ive been giving him baths and cod liver oil.. still nothing.. I dunno if hes impacted and not feeling well.. or if hes beginning to hibernate.. The LAST thing I want is for him to get sick and die.. He is definitely one of my favorites

When you switched cages did you remember to up the wattage of the basking bulb or get a larger heating pad (which ever heating method your using). Reason i ask is becuase Savies do not hibernate but it sounds like your savy might just be cold. Going from a 40 to a 75 means theres alot more cage to heat, even if his basking spot temp is the same the abiant temp is not if your using the same heating from the 40 gallon. If you can post the temps in the cage this will help. Or some information about your heating setup.

Thanks for the reply.. yes, I added an extra heat lamp to account for the extra space... Im going to dig out my digital thermometer and check the temps, maybe he could use a third heat lamp.. inside the cave is still really cold, even with the 2 heat lamps above it.. :S
I have a 150w halogen bulb here.. but Im almost afraid to use it, it gets so hot.. It gets up to about 150 degrees directly under it.. Im afraid it will start a fire lol
