i been offering my tegu food 2 to 3 times a day since she arrived and she usually eats half of it or so or a few bites each time plus she eats crickets in her home....anyway she was in her home and she started biting a peice of substrate and then spit it out and continued walking.... i wasnt that concerned but then she did it again and shaked it and tried to chew it and swallow but then spit it out again... at that point i took her out of her home then put her in the feeding bin and got her a big peice of ground turkey... she ate the whole thing and that was the most i ever seen her eat..... my question is do i need to worry shes gona eat substrate when im not looking???? im using cypress mulch if that matters

my other concern was she pooped a bunch of times and its usually normal looking but 2 times it was like a yellow chunk and just clear fluid... almost looked like a peice of butter... im guessing it was undigested egg???

anyone that knows about this stuff please answer so i dont have to call bobby again lol i want to leave the poor man alone i already called em 10000 times

THANKS GUYS APPRECIATE IT

Well, those white things are called urates they are pefectly normal. It is there way of peeing. The clear fluid is excess fuids. He probably chewed on the substrate because was hungry and if you keep him well fed he might stop. He could have smelled crickets guts or something.

I saw mine bite a piece of wood (cypress) several times and spit it out. Its cause ther'e hungry. you might try offering food 2x per day (morning and afternoon.) mine used to eat in the morning and then have a snack in the afternoon. but now im bin feeding only once per day.I dont thing he will eat the wood on purpose, its more likely if you put live food in the cage he might injest the wood by accident. And i wouldnt worry about the color of the poop. my male had had the same disgusting yellowish, white ,liquid crap too.

I try to keep mine a little more moist during sheds, but not constantly.you can also soak your gu in warm water to loosen the shedding skin.
