Does anyone else find it amusing when their tegu plays with its own reflection. I found out this weekend that during a certain time at mid day the sun comes into the room where I am keeping him and turns one side of his enclosure into a mirror. It only last for about an hour or so but it is hilarious watching him run back and forth trying to play with the "other tegu". Has anyone else noticed this in their tegu's?

Just to give you a heads up, from my experience you might want to keep an eye on its behavior and actions, at times it might look like playful fun, but can also be mistaken as stress being put on the animal, dont forget "you" know its a mirror, "they" dont, so it can be confused with another animal to them in "their" enclosure, that happend a few time with my monitors and specially my beardeds,
But if you see no harm then or aggression then kool.

You might want to watch for him rubbing or pushing his snout against the glass too much. The last thing you want is nasal trauma.

Thanks guys I will keep that in mind. Right now it doesn't look to harmful. he just runs back and forth only touching the glass every now and then. and sometimes he will be standing up against the glass. but other than tha the kinda just stares at it and moves his head back and forth following the reflection. Ill probably put some kind of white background on that side to keep him from seeing the reflection though if it could cause harm. thanks again

If it gets to be a problem you could cover the cage wall with paper to stop the reflections. hes probably not "playing" he probably thinks theres another tegu in his territory.
