Dropped tails

I have read that tegus can drop their tails. Is this a big problem that one need to watch out for? Handle in a special way maybe?

They can and occasionally from accidents, predators, and fights. Grab tail only from base if needed.

Don't do that. Hold base of tail if needed but also support under belly closer to pectorals.

If a Tegu is well taking care of and handled properly the risk of a dropped tail goes down. It usually happens at a younger age but it still can happen at adults age as well. Never pick up your Tegu by its tail though.
