Eating substrate

My new argentine seems to want to eat substrate. He digs down a little bit and then just eats a small bite of it. Should I remove all of it and leave it on paper towel?

How old is your tegu? What type of substrate are you using? It's not good for them to eat any type of substrate because it can cause them to get an impaction. How often are you feeding him/her and where do you feed him/her? Also, what size is your enclosure?

Two month old tegu, only got him yesterday, argentine black and white allowe to eat as much as it wants to eat. It's on coconut fiber.
