Enclosure for a B&W Tegu

Hi,

I really apologise if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything anywhere!

I'm really considering getting a Tegu. I can fit in my room a 7x3x4.5 vivarium and my question is would making this a 2 tier enclosure with a ramp up to the second floor be a good idea? The reason I ask this is because ideally I know I tegu would want at least a home which is 8 feet long, I just physically don't have the space.

I would be giving it free roam of the house for excercise for around an hour a day, if not more (depending on how cold my house is). How does this sound?

If I was to do the 2 tier option would I be better leaving the bottom tier with no lights but obviously kept warm with the top tier lighted? Or built in a way where the bottom tier still gets light in at least half of the area, or just have the bottom tier completely lit with seperate lights underneath the top tier?

Or would my tegu prefer to be on one level?

Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to be sure I do the right thing!

Thanks

No worries. If your are planning to get a Columian this should be fine. It will be fine for a female Argentine also. I have also heard as long as they frequently get out to roam a 7 is ok for a male. I do not know the answer about the 2 tier idea. It may make it hard to heat. But I would get other people's input on that too.

One of the tegus I worked with loved to climb. He would climb to the uppermost plant pockets in the display to destroy the plants, dig into the soil up there, etc. I think a tier would be enriching for the enclosure.
