Here is a link to my tegu cage plans let me know what you think. Constructive criticism appreciated (or you make me feel like a total idiot, your choice). I have decided to get one of Bobby's "royal" tegus.
Mostly I want to know if the heat lamps will be sufficient. He will be in a garage so it will stay pretty warm in the summer. I plan on building now and monitoring the temp during the summer, before I get the big boy.

My only suggestion is to make the front lip a little taller so you can get like 10-12" of substrate. Not sure if 6" is quite enough

Yeah I went to the hardware store and then realized it needed to be 3 feet. Also the board in the front is 12" so I can fill upto almost 12" when he gets bigger.

I spent time at Lowes today and got an idea about cost for a cage. About 50 bucks for plywood and another for the plexiglass.

thatsa start

LOLOLOL I was not expecting such detailed plans hahahaha

You have the right idea going, but I think your gonna find that theres alot more little things that are gonna shoot your projsected price through the roof. You still have to igure out the door and latch situation as well. That was the biggest hangup on my cage build.

You just have to wing it and learn along the way just like everyone else :) and thats the way it goes. But its fun to.

I have the door "figured" out. I hope. lol Hinges on the sides and latches along the top and bottom. plexi glass to view with a 2.5" frame. 16x43 I think.

Thanks for all the input guys!

How are you going to waterproof the inside? The cheapest way would be a few coats of primer then a few coats of exterior latex paint (see the link provided above for more detail on that!)

I've always lined the inside of my cages with linoleum sheets and they held up quite well. Just make sure you silicone all the corners and joints. Other then that, your plans look pretty good.

I'm actually in the process of building two 8'x4'x2' (LxWxH) cages for my tegus as they are currently sharing a 8'x4'x4' .
