Escape Artist hates her tank

Hey there, brand new owner here just got my female two days ago and she doesn't seem to want to settle at all, every moment she's in her tank she's at the side of the door and lifting herself up against the window, she never seems to want to back in and I'm worried she won't get enough heat, also all she has eaten in the last few days are a couple slices of ham but I'm hoping that's just because of the time of year, any advice on getting her settled in would much appreciated

It always takes a while, a few weeks, for a tegu to get used to his new home. When they are nervous they dont eat and usualy burry themselves to hide. Just give her about a week to get used to her home. Just provide water, and heat and lay out some food, and leave her be.

What size/type of enclosure is she in? How big is she? What are the temps and humidity? Why are you feeding sliced ham?

Next time, I suggest you do some research before obtaining a tegu, or any animal for that matter. Tell me, at what point did you feel it was right, or safe to feed processed food? It's not good for them - at all. Look up the more appropriate and healthy foods to feed your lizard.

Heat humidity substrate all important. Feed raw meats like ground turkey and beef liver along with whole prey. Only quick suggestions here cuz on my phone... but yes please scan the forums for info. These people know their tegus. Care sheets are available online too. Better to gather as much info as you can BEFORE buying. I did and i still look to these people for advice. :) you can never have too much info about a pet that you have commited to caring for! And egg yolks raw are ok but not the whites. Need calcium w no d3 and cod liver oil is good for absorption of vitamins in beef liver. Some also eat fruits too. And crickets etc but please don't feed just insects. Needs variety.
