Everyone in a Pile

All the tegus, in a pile. Very amusing to see, considering they've all been sleeping for a few weeks, but in my nervous-mommy-mode (first time letting mine hibernate), I accidentally woke them up. They've since all headed back to their nests, but for a little bit, all three of them came out to pile under the heat lamp in the cat bed.

The big male is Asgard, approx 2 years old, and so relaxed and chill he doesn't care about anything. He's like this big lazy hound that just kinda looks at you, flicks his tongue, then flops back in his warm nest.

The little red is Ember, also approx 2 years old. She's the one I worry about...I made the decision to let her hibernate if she is going to hibernate because I felt that force-feeding her to attempt to fatten her up was getting to be cruel for her. She eats when she feels like eating...she's eaten some rat pups in the last few weeks, and a few blueberries...so she's at least eating something.

And then the big girl is Ammy, not yet even a year and a half old, who is queen-female of ALL the territory. I've seen her actually push Asgard out of his nest so she could take it. She's definitely a queen of tegus, lol. She's not mean or anything, she's just demanding of all the attention and she's definitely made it known. But I've seen her curl completely around Ember and sleep together.

All three tegus have taken up a bedroom of their own at this point, they've all got 'their' spaces, but occasionally they all decide to be social and lay together.

A few other pics of the tegus, before they had to be moved to a safer sleeping place:

I can't take credit for the big guy's condition. He's a relatively new addition...he was at a local reptile show and was one of those spur of the moment decisions, where i held him and he was just so laid back and chill about everything, so I had to give him a good home.

A friend of mine was talking about how I have reptiles, and how can I do that, they're not as cuddly as a cat or a dog, they don't have feelings or maternal instincts. I show them pictures of how my big female curls around the little female and they sleep together, or how all of them pile together to get warm. Tell me again that tegus don't have feelings, don't have the ability to be nurturing loving animals. yeah.

I'm defensive of my tegus, lol. I'm really looking forward to next year when they're all awake and lively and I can take them outside again.
