Finally found a Tegu website :)

Hi,
I've had my Tegu now for almost a year and only just found this website which seems to be stuffed to the core with information on Tegu's

I'm not sure if my Tegu (named Tubbs) is a male or female yet but hoping I can get some advice here.

Tubbs is a rescue as she (lets just go for girl for now) was abused by her past owners and she didn't have a UV light at all which has slowed her growth quite a bit making it harder to tell her age. Since being with my boyfriend and I, Tubbs has put on a health amount of weight and seems a very happy Tegu.

When we first got her as a rescue, she was very nervous and would lash at anyone that opened her tank or came near her, however I can now stroke her in her sleep and I know she can't smile, but it looks like she is as she looks at me and then curls up to enjoy her petting.

Recently had a house fire and had to get her checked out for respiration problems and burns but she is perfectly fine and is acting her normal self.

Any ideas on how to sex Tubbs properly and how to tell her age.

Welcome to the forum. When he/she gets older, you can feel for two tiny cloacal buttons, one on each side of the vent. Females also seem to carry weight in more of a pear shape while males are stockier throughout.
