So im helping a friend of mine who runs a rescue and taking 5 B/W tegus off his hands for a while. What i was wondering is do many people here buy their frozen prey online and if so whats a good company to go through. I mostly grind and prepare my own food but still like to feed whole prey once a week.

Thanks

It depends on what I'm ordering. If I want an assortment of rats, mice, rabbits, and chicks, then I order from Rodent Pro. If I just need some rats and mice and I don't want a big order, I search for someone in my state who will have a lower shipping cost and comparable food costs (Loxahatchee Rodents for me). If there is a show soon, I take a cooler with some ice packs and buy at the show.

I generally use Rodent Pro because there are really no suppliers here in Idaho, as least that I know of. I found out that buying a lot of mice or whatever is the key. I got the impression that filling the standard box they use is the least expensive way to go. I bought 400 mice which pretty much filled the box but I perhaps could have gotten another 100. It wasn't so much the few pennies I saved per mouse but the shipping spread over the total made it much more affordable. I think the shipping is around $28 if you buy 100 or 500. I know my all in cost for three different sizes came out to less than .40 each.

If you are buying for 10 and have the outlay, get a Greyhound deal. Bigger box, cheaper shipping per item, but you pick up at the Greyhound station.
