Spoiling the hell out of the lizard - I got him a heated cat bed which he seems to love so far. He has not left it voluntarily. I just worry that it isn't going to hold up to his incessant digging.

I also built a waterfall for his cage as I was feeling ambitious. If there is any doubt I am a complete idiot and this was the stupidest idea in a long line of stupid ideas.

He loved it and seemed to drink a lot more water when it was running. Unfortunately when I left he'd get bored, pull all the spanish moss down from the walls of the terrarium and stuff it into the fountain. He'd then pile dirt on top of the moss until you couldn't tell there was even a fountain there. After spending several hours a night cleaning the fountain I finally reached my limit and removed it. I'm trying to redesign it into something that will survive a tegu cage- but not convinced it is going to work. Still not sure why I thought that would work even a little.

You'd probably have to create a "waterfall room " for him. Like a seperate 'chamber ' with maybe tile floor and no plants. Just the waterfall. That way there wouldn't be anything for him to bury it with :)

He'd figure something out. He's resourceful like that. I suppose spanish moss isn't the worst thing he could have left in the fountain :p

Wasting all that time and money on a project that doesn't work? Sounds like a gubmint project. Except you know when to defund it.
