My mom's co-worker just emailed me asking about beardie dragons and if they were a good starter lizard. I told her the basic care and set-up but she really wants to get some good reading on them. I haven't really been intp beardies myself, i use to have two giants that were given to me, but that was it. Is there any good beardie sites out there that i can recomend or even a book or two. I would say this fourm but she's alittle intmidated by tegus and i dont want her to think im crazy for suggesting a tegu site for beardie info.

Bearded Dragons are Perfect starter reptiles.

They do require green veggies on a daily basis.
They eat small mice, lizards, veggies.

Need basking temps around 90 degrees.

Fresh water daily, I housed my two beardies in a 40 long, they loved it.

Upkeep is minimal they love to be held and never bite you.

My suggestion is if your friend is looking for literature on the reptile, just look online, there are plenty of websites that tell you about bearded dragons and there requirments.

Best of LUCK!

I own two bearded dragons, the female just bred her first clutch, and they are housed with a schneider skink. They are all in a 40 breeder and are awesome. The skink is burrowed most of the time, so they never bother eachother. They are very easy to care for and extremely easy to handle. I also have a pair of uromastyx, also in a 40b.; They might be easier to care for and just as easy to handle. They will actually climb right into my hand and up my arm. The only thing that trumps the uro's is the beardies have a more entertaining personality. Both awesome intro reptiles. And yea all of the info on the net is pretty good. I ahvent found much contradictory information on them because they are so well known in the pet industry.

That is what i was worried about i know with some geckos and tegus there arte sites out there that will give you some bad information. The mother has had leopard geckos before she had kids and the dad is hella stoked to getting a lizard (he was hoping for somthing larger). I'll just sned them around some of my personal favorite beardie pages then. I just wasn't sure if there was one site out there that would be a must read. Everytime someone ask me about tegus this is where i direct them, so i figured wouldnt hurt to ask.

YEa I must have read atleast a dozen care sheets on the bearded dragons when I first got them. They were all the same though so I think you are safe. If they stumble upon bad advice I appologize but the best thing for them to do regardless is to read as much as they can on them. Forums are a great place to visit, as you well know. So you should suggest that to them as well.

Beardies are great I own four and breed them as well. If you get them as a baby please please keep them off of sand until they are about a year old. They are from australia so they love hot and dry temps. Your basking area should be around 110. They love the heat. They must have UVB/UVA bulb that they can get within inches to. They will eat crickets and super worms (NOT MEAL WORMS). I feed my pinkies becuase small mice have all that hair and bone is harder on there digestive system. I keep all 4 of mine in a 6 foot cage ( understand mine are spoiled rotten). I have never been bitten and they are great to have. I would be carefull with some of the websites but her best bet is to go on breeders websites. Like Caliente Dragons, Inferno dragons. Many people get dragons and they don't do enough research and end up killing them. I see it all the time in the reptile store that I work at.
