Does anyone handle their tegu once it has started hibernating? Do you just leave it alone? It is around 80 degrees here today and I would like to get Blender out in the warmth a little. Thanks

It all depends on if Blender is completely hibernating or just slowing down a little. If he's completely hibernating, I wouldn't suggest digging him out of his hide and warming him up because he wouldn't be too happy about it. If he's just slowing down his metabolism but still coming out every once and a while like Zzyzx is, I don't see any issue with handling him for a short while. I handle Zzyzx during this time in a dimly lit room to avoid completely scaring him because he's always drowsy when he stumbles out of his cave. I wouldn't take Blender outside because it may be a bit much for him to handle at this time of year.

well my tegu never went down and barely slowed down and i handle her every other day but as for a tegu in hibernation i wouldnt bother at all because you can really stress them out which can and will cause health problems just think about it like this if you were sleep or sleepy would you want someone bothering you? of course just let him do his thing til hes done hibernating
