It depends on his reaction to you disturbing him. I have only had my tegu for a week, but they are smart. If you can it might be better in the morning

Your best bet is to adjust the times on your lights/heat to come on later in the day.. It might take a while to get him adjusted but I've seen this suggested several times to people with your problem. Good luck.
