I orderd my baby b/w tegu, and i was wondering a few things i couldnt find on any care sheets. How often should i feed my baby(i was planning on feeding it crickets mainly until about 1/2 year old) and how often should i dust the crickets. Also i build a cage 6ft long 2 ft tall and 3 feet deep, and i was wondering if it would be okay to put the baby in there right away. If somebody can help me with these questions i would appreciate it, thanks!

Feed your baby everyday, if he doesnt eat right away dont be alarmed, let him get used to hit house for a couple days before you try to interact with him. If you want to hold him, grab him with a lose grip from his underbelly. If he runs away or tries to bite you, just leave him alone he's probably stressed, if he lets you hold him, do it everyday this is a good thing, most small tegus are very skittish.

As for food, crickets really arent a main staple diet for a tegu, although you can feed them crickets when they are small, you will soon find out they would much rather eat meats and fruits.

I feed mine 2-3 times a day, Tuna/Boiled-Egg/Bannanas/peas/rice/canned dog food. They are scavengers by nature so they will most likely eat anything you put in their face, they enjoy mice/dubia roaches/lizards ect ect.

Keep there bedding moist but not wet, I spray mine twice a week. its a 5x3x3.

Humidity around 50-60%, Hot spot around 100-115 degrees, cool spot around 85. they need UVB bulb, and D3 supplements would help twice a week sprinkled on there food.

I spend a good 1hr a day with my tegus, wether its bathing, feeding, cleaning there cage everyday.

This is what I do for MY tegus, others may disaprove of my methods!

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Congrats on getting your new Tegu. I don't recommend putting a hatchling in such a big enclosure yet. Because he would be more scared in there than in a smaller enclosure. I have two babies in a 55 gallon right now. It also would be alot harder to find him in there. Here is a caresheet from the best Tegu breeder out there. Hope this helps. Good luck with everything.
