ok just put together my viv, its a cabinet 3ft long by 1.5 by 1.5, with a shelf, my uvb strip is full length but near the glass doors, then just behind that at 1 side i have a 100watt spot bask, my question is, at the cool end its 85 degrees F and at the hot about 100 degrees F, could the shelf be blocking heat, should i take it out and should i move the lights to the centre or back of the inside roof. at the mo my baby is 7inch long so enough room, for a couple months, should i add another bask bulb, it doesnt seem very humid inside, my humidity thermometer is in post, my tank seems very cool at bthe back under shelf and at cool end, any advice would be great.

You would want the cool end under 80 degrees. Try decreasing the wattage of your bulb and lowering so the basking spot is like 110 that way your cool side will not be so hot. How are you measuring your temps and humidity the gauges from the pet store are not accurate. Are you misting your enclosure that helps with humidity also a water dish some people use humidifiers also. Also what kind of substrate are you using?

Also because you are using a tube for UVB make sure its with in 8" to 12" from the animal otherwise the tegu will not recive any UVB.

im using orchid bark, ive used diffrent thermometers and i have a corner at cool end at 73F, and the other cool corner at 80F the basking area is 105F, and on the shelf at basking end is 115F the other end of shelf is about 85F the shelf that has a log leading up to it is about 8 inches from the UVB and the floor is about 16 inches from the UVB, he spends a lot of time in his burrow hide at cool end, he doesnt climb onto shelf much but have seen him do it, ive enlarged the vent then taken theses readings, i have a pretty good humidity thermometer in post arriving soon, only had tegu 2 days now

Your tegu will probably spend at least the first week hiding while he is adjusting to his new home. If when he comes out an does not use the shelf I would mount the uvb 8 inches from the bottom of the enclosure.
