Hey all! I am new to forums and new to Tegus but I am hopeful about both. My husband and I got our first Tegu a few days ago. He is a bit of a rescue, he was majorly underweight and unsocialized; however after some personal attention he is like a whole new tegu. He is putting on healthy weight and has gone from striking at your hand to letting you pick him up and interact with him. He just needed some love. lol I can't wait to see all your awesome tegus and meet you all. I hope to learn a lot and make some friends here. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you- Vastra and Strax

Welcome and congrats on the new tegu. Glad to see you're giving a mistreated tegu a second chance and a loving home. Maybe I should have you talk to my wife - she's terrified of reptiles and I'm still working on getting her to let me have a tegu in the house!!! So at the moment I'm living vicariously through everyone here until I can talk her into it. Had numerous tegus and a couple of rescues in the past and the rescues always were the most rewarding to own. It's almost like they appreciate you more!

Thanks everyone :) As soon as I get a chance, I plan to post pictures so you can see where he was when I got him, and how he is looking now. It feels good having people in our corner. Snibborisk, as for your wife, maybe you are going about it the wrong way lol. Explain it to her like this: You see people mistreating puppies and kittens all the time, and they suffer in shelters because they aren't the "cute ones" or they need some extra help. People judge people the same way on appearance instead of their capacity for emotions or positive interaction. Reptiles get the same deal. People automatically assume they are slimy and gross, but really they are just like puppies in their own way. They may not be traditionally cute, but they can interact and bring joy to your life just like any other pet would. And if she is worried about feeding live, there are many alternatives to live prey animals available. Start by trying to get her to touch a crested gecko, they are tiny, cute and soft feeling (and unobtrusive). lol If you can get her to do that, then you are well on your way to getting a Tegu. Best of luck.
