We just got a tegu surrendered to us where I work. She is about 6 lbs and 2.5 feet.. And she has the same issue with obstipation. We went in surgically and removed the material which seems to be rat hair ect. She is recovering and would like some nutritional info recommendations on what her diet should be while recovering and how much and how often. Thanks in advance. Barbra

I'm going to bump this so maybe roadkill or someone with more experience will see this. I am going to assume that you are working in a veterinary clinic in some capacity. I'm not a vet by any means, just a guy who likes tegus. I would think you'd need some kind of easily digestible slurry you could put in a large feeding syringe, perhaps some hills a/d canned food and water. To administer I'd get 2 people one to hold the lizard, the other takes a rubber spatula and gets it in the tegus mouth and then squeeze the slurry in. I don't know how much I'd give, but I'd start with small amounts. Like I said hopefully someone else can chime in on this. I'd also look over at anapsid.org, alot of information there. Good luck

Thanks N8bub for bumping this. I'm not a veterinarian either and hope you'll get some input from a few members here that have that experience. One member I believe is a vet. Npjm, I think.

In the meantime, my own inclination would be mashed frozen/thawed pinks and fuzzies, heavily amended with calcium and some fish oil. Small portions often and adequate basking, ambient, and hide box temps. Water available always.
