I've looked at this site many times and now that I recently adopted a tegu, thought it was time to make an account.
I recently took in a (supposedly) 5 month old black and white argentine. One of the first things I wanted to see was how large other tegus are around this age. All I know is that this little guy had a sibling who grew way faster, just want to make sure he is on the right track. I've taken care of monitors and tegus before but I've never had my own, till now!

If anyone is curious how this little guy is being cared for, I've gotten most of my information from here. I use a temp gun which says basking spot is around 115, cooler side being in 80s. His substrate is organic soil/sand mixture, has multiple bulbs in basking area (Of course he has his UVB light). Fed a varied diet. Hornhorms, waxworms, superworms, smelt, occasional pinkie, hearts/glizzards with supplement, the only way I get him to eat fruit and veggies is when I chop it up and mix it in with meat. I haven't gotten reptilinks yet so for the time being I'm mixing his fruits/greens in with ground meat + supplement. So I guess my first questions would be A) How large is the avg tegu at this age? and B) What are other ways to get my little guy to eat his veggies!

I'll update with his measurements soon, I think he is 14 inches?
If you guys have anything else you'd like to share please let me know, really want to make sure this guy is taken care of. Look forward to learning more from you guys.

14 inches seems a little small for 5 months but they all grow at different rates and according to how much they are fed. He may be a she, girls are usually smaller.

Hey thanks for responding. Yeah I thought 'he' might be small for his age. I know the previous owner definitely got him as a small hatchling, so hopefully he is younger than five months? I measured him the other morning and he is right on 14 inches. When I got him (easter weekend) he had some shed left over and it looks like he might be shedding again. He has been eating well so hopefully he grows faster.

By the way, your icon is too cute.
