I just came across these at reptile shop in Grants Pass Oregon I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. They seem pretty cool other than that they are poisonous. I know a few people here deal with venomous animals(crazy)(lol). I was also wondering what the case was with a bite. i know potentially fatal. How much time do you have and what are symptoms(Not that you wouldn't know you had been bit). just curious thanks

From what I've heard and seen from people who own them which makes me no expert. They are fairly docile and rarely bite.

Hope that helps.

This site might help you out a little.

From what my friend said and he has kept one for a few years its nearly impossible to get the lizard to bite you. Would really have to cause the animal a lot of stress or threaten its life before it got defensive enough to bite.

They don't have fangs like a snake. They bite very hard and hang on like a pit bull, letting the venom ease into the wound. Very painfull. Don't ask how I know. If you're lucky, you can get them off before you get too big a dose. Larger ones are less prone to bite, they have to be harrassed pretty hard. Babies/juvies on the other hand....

They don't move around much, more like pretty aquarium decorations...until it's time to eat.
Heloderma's are my personal favorites, even after my little run-in with an 8" suspectum.

Thats true just because youve been bitten doesnt mean you're poisoned. it has to hold on to let the venom enter the wound.just wear thick gloves as a precaution.
