Okay, So forever i have always liked reptiles and i have 2 ball pythons, a red tail boa, and a tegu.
But before i got my tegu i was looking for one and after Christmas i was gonna order one.
so a week before Christmas i went to the local Earl May a nursery/garden center to get some mice because i just ran out of frozen mice and i found an "Argentine black and wight" at least that's what the girl told me i think its a Colombian black and white so i bought it was only 99 bucks and i also bought crickets and calcium and meal worms so the next day i went to take it out i put it in a container and put some dusted crickets in there it ended up jumping out of the container and hid so i put it back in her cage ever since then i barley took it out of the cage and i feel bad cuz i did a lot of research before hand and i know your suppose to hold it every day and all that so back to today i have not held this tegu since the first week i got it and i wont sell it to anyone because i feel like i need to fix what i did and tame it PLEASE GIVE ADVISE I'M DESPERATE

I'm no expert but if I had a fiesty Tegu I would just cut its lights off and let it cool down. Once the Tegu is at room temperature (1/2 hr maybe) Then I would pick it up slowly and softly to start building trust. If he wiggles or squirms thats ok..just no sudden movements. Then get a tank, bathtub or a tote bin and give a nice warm bath to it. I put a block in so not having swim can just chill and enjoy the warm water. Next while your Tegu is relaxing prepare his food in a separate container. Once bath time over dry him off and let him "discover" new eating area. Tegu's are smart and if your consistant with handling daily to feed in a separate bin...soon enough your tegu will be looking forward to you picking them up to get them to the feeding spot. Hope this helps...btw the bath is not only relax your tegu but let them burn off some energy. Good Luck

I wish you well with it. Columbians on average are just not as easy to make friends with as are Argentines. So, try above advice and be persistent and see what happens.

A good trick (I've heard) to getting tegus used to you is just sitting in the bath when them. No water, obviously, but just letting the tegu roam around in the bath tub while you sit there. Eventually the tegu will start to explore you and learn who you are
