I am thinking about starting up one of these. The closest one to me is 2 hours away. Does anyone do this kind of thing? Do I need some type of insurance? Does anyone have any advice or experiences? I have 2 empty spare rooms to fill with reptiles and amphibians lol. Oh, and no dogs or cats. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When this comes up I always wonder about liability if you happen to take in an animal which has a disease which could be spread easily via airborne transmission. Or if the animal were to have a health issue while in your care. Also you would need to only take specific species you have enclosures for and are experienced with. I don't think insurance exists which will cover this type of business but if their is I'd love to know about it.

Vets sometimes have a place to board reptiles. I know I was looking for a long time for a vet for my tegu and could only find one, located next town over. Called them they were rude but directed me to another vet. When i called them i found out that it was less than 2 mi from my house. I didnt know they had a herp vet and they also do reptile boarding and they are about 10 bucks cheaper. Shine down on me huh? So I got lucky. Also pet stores might board out their empty enclosures. I dont know if it would be a solid money maker or not for you would be good to know though.

That is why I was wondering if there was some kind of insurance, or a waiver or something. Or what about going to peoples houses feed and clean their pets ... water their plants and such lol

Anyways, I guess I will do a bit more research before I get into something like this. I just thought that there was enough cat/dog sitters, so why not reptiles :p

House sitting/in home animal care type service would be great, although I'm not sure how trusting the general public would be about it, if you are a good salesperson it may work. This could probably be covered via insurance although I'm not 100% sure. I know here in Canada the government has free small business consulting services which come in handy for questions like this, not sure about the US.

Well it sounds like a good idea. And I live in canada so maybe I'll try to get a hold of that consulting service.
