Ollie is an Argentinian Tegu and I would love for him to like me but sadly, I'm pretty sure he hates me. :) Anyone have any pointers that would be useful? I am a new Tegu owner. I also have a Corn Snake but he is super easy comparatively.

I want to say welcome to the forum! I hope to post some more in the future. But first, are you certain that is an Argentine tegu? The one in your Avatar looks like a Colombian.

Hello Molly and Ollie! Welcome to the forum! Do you say you think he hates you because he's not so tame?

Welcome to the site :) and congrats on the new gu. The avatar pic is definitely colombian. They can be just as calm and easy to handle as other tegus but they can also require more work to get them that way. On the other hand some tegus just don't like being handle much, that doesn't mean that they hate you. It's just how they are and or what they prefer.

Judging by the picture in your avatar/prof pic, your tegu (if that is Ollie), is definitely a Colombian. Welcome to the forum, as far as taming goes, it may take some time - but through daily, brief handling, he/she will come around.

Oh, man. I bought him as an Argentinian. Should have done more research. That is kind of a bummer because now he won't get as big and he is going to be more flighty and defensive. :(

Good to know. Thanks. I am handling him almost every day and once I get him out he is ok for a little while and then he/she (I'm assuming a he due to the thickness of the base of his tail) starts to squirm and freak out. When I first got him I let him in the grass and he took off. I ended up popping his tail off trying to get him back. It's grown back nicely.
