i know this is the wrong place for this question but nobody answered in the hibernation forum, and its been a week now since my new gu has gone and buried himself and has not come out. if hes hibernating i dont want to disturb him, but if hes not then whats going on? i can check to make sure hes ok but then that would be disturbing him, and im wondering if he ate enough before going under and why so soon? ive had him about a month and a week now and for the first 2 weeks he was so active and feeding like a fiend, but now just before he went down i offered him some crickets and he did not even eat any. just in a lil bit of a panic

In Bobby's post in the hibernation forum he says his go down as early as August. I'm not experienced at all with this but whos to say yours isn't going down just really early? I'm sure someone else will post and let you know if it's normal or not. It would be good to post your enclosure size, substrate, lights, temps, and all that information too for the experts to really know what is going on.

Is he CB or an import? How long have you had him? If he did go down, you don't want him to have food in his stomach?

I have an imported adult male although I don't know when he arrived at Ellis Island.
He headed into his substrate for the second time this year in June and comes up for air, water and a snack once a week or so. I knew he was likely imported so I didn't become concerned. When he emerges, he is still a good guy, still in good shape and seems happy to get a pat or two and bask for a while.
While I miss him I don't miss his appetite, ;-} All in all, my guess is he will be hibernating around 6-7 months this year.
I don't make any effort to wake him. If his instincts are telling him to sleep, then sleep he must.

I wouldn't worry to much if I were you.

no idea on either but i assume cb im guessing if i really want to know i can contact the people i got him from, i dont think he has any food in his tummy as he did not eat for a couple days before he started this, i have to confess that curiosity got the better of me last night and i dug a bit till i found him and i saw the mulch move so i know hes alive. i did not bother him further and he has not come out so i will just let things that their course. it just sucks that he went down so soon i was having fun socializing with him. we only had him for maybe a month and 2 weeks. and a week of that has been him hibernating.
i thank you all for bearing with my paranoia. like i said before i just want to do right by him. :)
