Last year I kept my Tegu in "summer conditions" and she still went into hibernation...

After a month or so of being asleep I moved her into very slightly cooler conditions...

She slept for 5 months...

Not necessarily.. Boon went into hibernation early last year before I even got a chance to lower temps.. He's living outside now and already hibernating with night temps in the 70s, day temps upper 80s/low 90s.. they basically do what they want, you can try to persuade them by manipulating temps but in the end they'll decide.
