Usually dexter eats a little shy of a half cup. Today he ate two mice plus his normal amount. He really let's me know when he is hungry. His tail is pretty fat. It necks down at his butt and buldges out down his tail. He hasn't missed a day for eating. But today he really had a hunger. He's not yet a year old and been out of hibernation for two months. Maybe.

Coming out of hibernation they can be famished and making up for lost time. In the wild the quicker you grow and move up the food chain,.. the better. They'll eat as much as they want and stop when they're full.

Until a tegu is about 3 years old or you start to see some major swelling around the leg joints I would say feed until full. Some tegus eat less then other and some will eat until they pop. At that young age and with hibernation sleepiness wearing off there should be no problem with feeding you tegu that amount. Just make sure there is plenty of water, heat and UV to help digest all that.

He eats every bit I give him. Maybe I give him more. His belly looks like Santa clauses. Till the next morning.
